Curbside Holds Pickup - how it works and what you can expect:

The library will continue to offer pickup of holds through the month of October. It is not necessary to make an appointment to pick up your materials at the Edgartown Library. When you have received notification that your materials are ready for pickup, please be sure to bring your CLAMS card or a photo ID, and wear a mask while inside the vestibule or waiting to pick up your materials.

Hold pickup is available at the following times:
12pm - 4pm    Mondays
12pm - 4pm    Tuesdays
12pm - 4pm    Wednesdays
12pm - 4pm    Thursdays
12pm - 4pm    Fridays
12pm - 4pm    Saturdays

If you need to schedule a pickup outside of our regular pickup times, please contact us so we can make arrangements.

  • Same-day holds must be placed by 10am. We may not be able to fulfill same-day holds placed after 10am.

  • Everyone picking up holds will be asked to show a CLAMS card or photo ID.

  • If you send someone else to pick up your holds, please be sure to send that person with your CLAMS card.

  • Hold pickup location is in the rear vestibule entrance of the library building. Only one patron will be allowed in the vestibule at a time to pick up materials, and the sidewalk is marked to indicate where patrons may wait to enter the vestibule if it is occupied by another patron.

  • Patrons who are coming to pick up materials must wear a mask and practice appropriate social distancing. Signage and tape markings will direct patrons to waiting and pickup points.

  • Please wait in the designated area on the sidewalk until the vestibule is clear of any other patrons.

  • When you arrive at the vestibule, staff will ask you to show a CLAMS card or photo ID through the window. Your material(s) will be checked out to you at that time.  

  • If you are physically unable to walk to the library’s entrance, please bring or send someone who can do it for you.

How to place a hold on materials: 

There are four fast and easy ways to order library materials:

·       Order online through the CLAMS catalog 

·       Download the new CLAMS app on your mobile device (Google PlayApple App Store)

·       Call 508-627-4221 and leave a message with your request. Make sure you leave your full name and/or library card number.

·       Email info@edgartownlibrary.org with your request. Make sure you include your full name, phone and/or library card number.

·       Need ideas? Check out our Cool Fall Reads, or click here to browse CLAMS New Titles and Best Seller lists.

When you call or email us, you can request specific titles or even a “Librarian Special.” You can ask for some children’s books on tigers, the latest in a cozy mystery series, or even reading recommendations for someone who enjoys Swedish crime noir. We’ll do our best to fulfill the request, and will contact you via phone or email when your materials are ready for pickup.

Available materials & ComCat

We can only pull library materials that you’ve put on hold in advance. We may be able to fill walk-up requests, depending on staff availability. 

Until statewide delivery resumes, we can only fulfill requests that are physically located at the Edgartown Public Library, at other Martha's Vineyard libraries, or any library in the CLAMS system. ComCat statewide service is resuming on Monday, September 21st. Please keep in mind that items arriving from other libraries will take a bit longer to process. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

We can fulfill holds for books, audiobooks, DVDs, Blu-rays, video games, and Playaways. Other items, such as musical instruments and kits, are not currently available.

Returning your library materials

If you have materials to return, please use the exterior book drop or the return bin inside the vestibule. Please do not leave returned materials on the hold pickup table. We treat the return of library material seriously and must ensure proper safety protocols when handling returns. Staff will direct you to return all materials to the appropriate book drops.

PLEASE NOTE: All returned materials will be quarantined before they are available to the community. That means it may take several days for materials you have returned to be removed from your account.

We have been fine free since January 2020, so you will not incur late fees now or ever.
